Mixed Waste Removal in Central Scotland

What we do

Construction and renovation projects rarely produce one type of waste. By the time a site clearance or strip-out is underway, you’ve got rubble mixed with timber, metal, packaging, soil, and general debris — all in the same pile.

Our mixed waste removal service handles it all in a single load. No sorting on site, no arranging separate collections for each waste stream, no multiple vehicles. One grab lorry, one visit, one waste transfer note covering the full load.

We operate across Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling, Falkirk, and the wider Central Scotland region — with clear, upfront pricing and next-day availability on most jobs.

How Mixed Waste Removal Works

Our grab lorries self-load using the hydraulic arm, collecting directly from mixed waste piles, skips, or loose arisings on your site. Because the vehicle loads itself, there’s no manual sorting required and no separate loading plant needed.

Mixed loads go to a licensed waste transfer station where material is sorted and processed. Recyclable elements — metals, timber, inert rubble — are separated and routed to the appropriate reprocessing streams. What cannot be recycled goes to licensed disposal. A waste transfer note covering the full load is issued on every collection.

No council permit is required for a grab lorry operating roadside, unlike a skip — which makes collection faster and simpler, particularly in urban areas or on restricted streets.

What Can Go in a Mixed Waste Removal Load

Accepted:

  • Construction debris — rubble, brick, broken concrete, masonry
  • Timber and untreated wood
  • Metals — steel, copper, aluminium, pipework
  • Plastics and packaging
  • Soil and hardcore (in combination with other materials)
  • General building waste and renovation arisings
  • Domestic clearance waste — furniture, fittings, general household items

Not accepted:

  • Hazardous waste — asbestos, contaminated soil, chemical waste
  • Electronic waste — TVs, computers, white goods (these require separate WEEE disposal)
  • Medical or clinical waste
  • Paints, oils, solvents, or liquid waste
  • Gas cylinders or pressurised containers

If you’re unsure whether a specific material is acceptable, call us before booking. We’d rather confirm in advance than turn up and be unable to collect.

Who We Work With

Demolition and strip-out contractors

Internal strip-outs, soft strip operations, and partial demolitions generate exactly the kind of mixed arisings a grab lorry handles well. Fast clearance keeps your programme moving and the site safe.

Builders and main contractors

End-of-phase site clearances, post-trade waste, and general construction debris cleared efficiently without arranging multiple collections for different waste types.

Renovation and refurbishment contractors

Kitchens, bathrooms, and full property refurbishments generate mixed loads of plasterboard, timber, metal, tiles, and general debris. One grab load handles what would otherwise take several skip exchanges.

Property developers

Vacant property clearances, pre-development site clearances, and post-construction tidy-ups. We work on both occupied and vacant sites.

Domestic homeowners

Large house clearances, loft and garage clear-outs, and post-renovation tidying. We treat domestic jobs with the same care and documentation as commercial work.

Estate agents and property managers

End-of-tenancy clearances and pre-sale tidy-ups where a range of material needs removing quickly and cleanly.

One Load vs Multiple Collections

The alternative to mixed waste removal is separating your waste on site into skips or separate containers — one for timber, one for inert, one for metal, and so on. This takes time, requires space on a live site, and means multiple collection bookings and multiple invoices.

For most construction and renovation clearances, a mixed waste grab load is faster, simpler, and often cheaper than the equivalent volume separated into skips. The trade-off is a slightly higher disposal cost per tonne compared to clean inert loads — but for most sites the time and management savings more than offset this.

If your load is predominantly one material type — clean soil, clean concrete, or clean timber — a segregated load will cost less to dispose of. We’ll advise on the best approach when you enquire.

Mixed Waste Removal

Common Questions

Do I need to sort the waste before collection?

No. Mixed waste removal is designed specifically for loads that contain a combination of materials. You don’t need to separate anything on site — we collect it as it is and the sorting happens at the licensed waste transfer facility after collection.

No council permit is required for a grab lorry. Unlike a skip left on a public road, a grab lorry parks temporarily while loading and does not need a street works or skip permit. This makes collection faster and avoids the additional cost and waiting time involved in permit applications.

We cannot accept hazardous waste including asbestos, contaminated soil, chemicals, oils, or solvents. Electronic waste, medical waste, and gas cylinders also require separate specialist disposal. If you’re unsure about a specific material, call us before booking.

A standard grab lorry carries up to 15–16 tonnes or approximately 20 cubic metres per load. Mixed loads are typically lighter than inert loads, so volume tends to be the limiting factor. For larger clearances we’ll advise on the number of loads required.

Yes. We work on residential properties regularly. Our grab lorries can access most residential streets — let us know if you have any concerns about access and we’ll confirm suitability before the job.

Mixed waste disposal carries a higher gate fee than clean inert loads, as it requires more processing at the waste transfer facility. Pricing depends on volume, material composition, and your location. We provide a clear, fixed quote before we start — contact us with your postcode and an approximate description of the load for a price.

Yes — a waste transfer note is issued on every load as standard, confirming legal disposal at a licensed facility. We are registered with SEPA as licensed waste carriers. Copies of our registration documentation are available on request.

Recycling Mixed Waste

Mixed loads go to licensed waste transfer stations where materials are mechanically and manually sorted. Metals, timber, inert rubble, and plastics are separated and routed to reprocessing where viable — reducing the proportion going to landfill compared to an unsorted load going straight to disposal.

We cannot guarantee specific recycling rates for mixed loads, as these depend on the composition of the material. What we can confirm is that every load goes to a licensed facility operating under Scottish waste legislation, and that recovery of recyclable material is part of that process.
