Grab Hire Services in Central Scotland

What we do

A grab lorry is one of the most efficient ways to move bulk material on or off a construction site. The hydraulic arm loads directly from stockpiles, skips, or loose arisings — no manual labour, no separate loading plant required, no skip permits needed.

We provide grab hire services across Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling, Falkirk, and the surrounding areas of Central Scotland. Whether you need a single load cleared or regular collections built into your programme, we’ll give you a straight price and confirm availability before you commit.

How It Works

An 8-wheel grab lorry carries a hydraulic grab arm mounted behind the cab. The arm reaches over walls, fences, and obstacles, scoops material directly into the body of the vehicle, and compacts it as the load builds. A full load — typically 15–16 tonnes or around 20 cubic metres — is loaded in minutes.

This makes grab hire considerably faster than waiting for a skip to fill, booking a collection, and repeating. For bulk volumes, it is almost always the more cost-effective option.

The same vehicle can tip aggregate on arrival and load waste on departure, saving a vehicle movement on jobs where both are needed.

Materials We Handle

Our grab lorries regularly remove:

  • Soil, clay, and excavated spoil
  • Rubble, brick, and masonry
  • Hardcore and crushed concrete
  • Tarmac and road planings
  • Mixed construction and demolition waste
  • Timber and wood waste
  • Green waste — turf, roots, brash, hedge cuttings
  • Sand and gravel arisings

We cannot accept hazardous materials including asbestos, contaminated soil, or chemical waste. If you’re unsure whether your material is suitable, call us before booking and we’ll advise.

What Grab Hire Is Used For

Construction site clearance

Remove mixed arisings from demolition, groundworks, and strip operations as they are generated, keeping the site clear and safe throughout the build.

Muck away

Excavated soil and spoil shifted off-site as it comes out of the ground. One of the most common grab hire applications on housing developments and civils contracts.

Utility and infrastructure works

Trenching spoil, pipe bedding arisings, and reinstatement waste removed quickly so your gangs keep moving. Grab hire suits the pace of utility work better than almost any other waste solution.

Landscaping clearance

Turf, topsoil, roots, and green waste removed from large garden projects and grounds maintenance contracts. We work on domestic properties as well as commercial sites.

Aggregate delivery combined with waste removal

Deliver sub-base, drainage stone, or fill material and load waste on the same visit. Ask us about combined runs when you enquire.

One-off domestic clearances

Garden waste, renovation rubble, or driveway arisings removed cleanly without the cost and wait of skip hire. Suitable for most residential street access — ask if you have concerns about vehicle size.

Grab Hire vs Skip Hire

For anything more than 3–4 tonnes, grab hire is usually faster, cheaper, and simpler. Skips still make sense for slow-accumulating small volumes — but for construction and groundworks arisings, a grab lorry wins most comparisons.

Common Questions

How much can a grab lorry carry?

A standard 8-wheel grab lorry carries up to 15–16 tonnes or approximately 20 cubic metres per load. Lighter materials such as green waste or timber will hit the volume limit before the weight limit. Dense materials such as soil and rubble will reach the weight limit first. We’ll advise on the number of loads required when you enquire.

No — unlike a skip placed on a public road, a grab lorry parks temporarily while loading and does not require a council permit. This makes it a faster and simpler option for roadside collection, particularly in urban areas.

Yes. The hydraulic arm has a working reach that allows it to collect material from behind walls, fences, and level changes without needing direct vehicle access to the waste. If you have access restrictions, let us know when enquiring and we’ll confirm suitability.

We cover Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling, Falkirk, and the surrounding areas of Central Scotland including Perthshire, Fife, Angus, and Tayside. Contact us to confirm availability at your postcode.

We aim for next-day availability on most jobs across our core coverage area. For larger programmes or repeat scheduling, we recommend getting in touch a few days ahead to lock in dates.

Yes. Concrete, tarmac, and road planings are all standard grab hire materials. Dense materials like these will reach the vehicle’s weight limit faster than lighter materials, so we may advise on load splitting for large volumes.

Yes, a waste transfer note is issued on every load as standard. We are registered with SEPA as licensed waste carriers, so all documentation is in place for your compliance records or tender requirements.

Waste Disposal and Recycling

We issue waste transfer notes on every load as evidence of legal disposal. If you need copies of our SEPA waste carrier registration for your own records, just ask.
